A lot has been happening since my last post. Currently I am sitting in Spring, TX at my cousin Jason's house. His wife Jenny and our combined total of 9 kiddos are enjoying the day together. Some of the kids are outside playing while the others are inside being kids. This past week has been long, mainly due to the drive from Hermiston to Spring.
Our week(s) started last Monday with 4 days left of school. On Tuesday, Kyra was awarded her 5th award in school. Yay Kyra! She got awards for reading(2), writing, music, and being a good citizen. Wednesday was Megan's last day of school and she was given an award for reading over 133 book during the school year. Thursday was the last day for Kyra. She had auditioned and was selected for the end of the year talent show. She sang a song in front of 450+ students/teachers/staff and parents. She did an awesome job as well!
Thursday afternoon brought our quarterly Primary activity. mm We had a campout theme and the kids went to different staions learning about first aid, knot tying, food, and then they also washed the chairs from the Primary room. It finished off with hot dogs and chips and of course 5 minutes before the end, a huge wind storm came up and blew the tent half-way across the softball field. We all had a great time being together and doing service.
Friday morning the kids and I got up and loaded into the van and drove to Boise where we picked up Jenny and Mason and headed south. We stopped several places in Utah and had good visits with family. We stayed in Provo and then got up early Saturday and drove through Price Canyon, 30 minutes of Colorado, and New Mexico. We stopped outside of Albequerque for dinner and then got the kids situated for sleep and off we went. Somehwere in the middle of the night we made it to Texas. Continuing through until we couldn't go any further and it's a good thing because we made it to Spring by lunch.
So far we have had a few mishaps with some boys not getting along like they should, but boys will be boys. The girls are all getting along great! Madi and Kayla brought Kyra and Megan to dance class last night and they had a ball!
Madison turned 8 on Thursday and we celebrated by going to the mall and getting her ears pierced. She was a little nervous, but I decided that I had a set of holes in my ears that needed to be re-pierced and so now Madi and I have matching studs....flowers of course and if it's a flower, it has to be a daisy! I have white daisies and she has pink daisies. It's been fun teaching her how to take care of her ears and we are keeping track of how long we have to keep them in on the refridgerator. We have a standing date for her to call me when it's time to change out the studs and put in real earrings! Needless to say, we've hit it off fabulously!
We finished the week with Madison's baptism. The girls all got up and sang "The Holy Ghost". They did wonderful! Everyone kept coming up to us and telling us how impressed they were by the ensamble of Madison, Kayla, Kyra, Megan and Sydney. Way to go girls!
Last night, we got babysitters and the 3 of us adults went out to dinner. It was so nice to remember what quiet sounded like! The kids did well with the sitter and so now we are debating about doing it again! That is what a vacation means to me......quiet!
Today (Sunday), we went to the Arboretem and Botanical Gardens for a nice nature walk and took pictures of the kiddos. Jenny and I made the girls matching sun-dresses and then found the boys matching outfits....Pictures will be coming I promise! I'm going to have to take about 10 hours to sort through all of the pics we've taken!
This next week is going to be a fun one as well! Madison wanted to go and get nails painted and such with just the girls and so Jenny and I get to go and have a girls day- We also have a trip to the Houston Zoo and the Children's museum planned this week. This weekend we're debating about Sea World and lots of other fun stops.
This vacation was supposed to be restful, but I'm finding more and more fun things to do. I'll try to keep everyone posted on how things are going between my homework assignments and fun outings with the kiddos!
